- After 9 years in business, unfortunately, Mat Blak New York is leaving the neighborhood. I have grown to love this neighborhood and all of the amazing people that have supported me, smiled, waved, shared your true selves, shed tons of tears and shared moments of joy and laughter, I’m really going to miss you. But I think that it’s time to move on.

Located at 95 Verona Street, Mat Blak = hair stylist & flower bouquets and coffee, having been earlier on Van Brunt Street. A beard humecant is one of their signature products.
Mat Blak is peak Red Hook for exhibiting the creative flare of its founder in multiple ways and services. Here you can get your hair and beard cut AND get extraordinary flower arrangements in a stylish new loft-like shop styled by its proprietor, plus also coffee.
Protip: the owner's name is not Mat, it is Ken Marcelle; the Mat Blak name refers to the matt black color with which he paints his hairdressing tools.
The place offers grooming supplies - notably their beard humectant - unique accessories... and on the weekend curated bouquets of flowers. A shop slogan "Every guy deserves a handful of flowers."
